Southampton Super Major tournament review
This past weekend I attended the Southampton super major in my continued pursuit for that number 1 spot for Daemons in the UKTC.
I decided to go back to my daemonic roots and go mono Tzeentch in an attempt to combat the more shooty meta we are currently in.

Game 1 vs Orks
Secondaries:
Rebels-15
Bring it Down-14
Warp Ritual-12
This was an interesting game vs Jez with his unusual Ork list with 3 deff dreads, 6 killa kans, mega and standard nobz plus some gross and a battle wagon.
I sent screamers down the middle and flank to go for my opponents objectives to bait their units out. Once the Nobz and dreads exposed themselves, my chariots and flamers went to down melting everything in sight while Belly moved in and dealt with the Nobz and Warboss.
I had to sacrifice a unit of Flamers to get the mega nobz out of the battle Wagon but my chariots ended up melting them with 3 damage shots.
The kans would come in from strategic reserves bouncing off of flamers and got mortally and burned off the board over the next turn.
Overall it was a fairly straight foward game where I was able to just overwhelm my opponent in daemonic Flames while Belly dealt with the heavy combat hitters.
96-45 win
Game 2 vs Daemons
Secondaries:
Rebels-15
Despoilers-15
No Prisoners-9
I got to play Liam in the mirror match game 2. Running a chicken, wound cap thirster, slaanesh Prince, Horrors, flamers, letters and nettes.
Liam went first and ran his Horrors up in front of his Flamer squads who would start despoilers while plating his thirster in the centre.
With a combination of psychic, shooting and combat from Belly and chariots (the thirster ended up tanking 8 out of 12 5+ feel no pains from Belly meaning the chariots had to finish the job).
I decided to focus on clearing the objectives in my territory before going over to those flamers and Horrors which I used a unit of screamers to tie them up for a bit.
Holding steady with flamers cleared 7 letters on overwatch and wiping the nettes with flamers and psychic while eating the chicken with Belly spelled the end for Liams Warp entities while I keep my unbeaten record in the mirror!
94-66 win
Game 3 vs Chaos Knights
Secondaries:
Rebels-15
Bring it down-15
Warp Ritual-12
Last game of the day and I got Matts awesome looking Chaos knights!
Turn 1 I just moved both screamer units behind walls on both midboard objectives and set my self up still obscured in my deployment zone ready for a counter attack.
I would lose one screamer squad to combination of shooting and charging from wardogs and an abominant.
Turn 2 I thre my remaining screamer squad into Matts lines to tag up some wardogs while Belly moved up and the chariots and characters all set up to mortal and shoot the big knight in the middle. Next turn Belly would jump to the middle and kill the knight while flamers and chariots would get into a scrap with a couple wardogs on the objective on my left. Belly would then proceed to take shooting from a big knight plus like 5 wardogs and stay standing which was pretty huge. At this point, I was Bring down wardogs at a rapid rate while Matt couldn't keep up with my secondary scoring but would hold me neck and neck on primary!
Overall this was a great game that saw some wardogs survive abit longer than they should have but Belly also absorbing the near full force of a knight shooting phase and carrying on like nothing happened.
Matt was a great opponent who would go on to a 4-1 and get best Chaos overall for the weekend.
97-71 win
Game 4 vs Votann
Secondaries:
Rebels-14
Warp Ritual-12
No Prisoners-12
After a fantastic day 1 I was confident going into game 2. Unfortunately for me I would play into Robs Votann again after he schooled me in how Votann worked at Priority Orders back in November.
Rob is a great guy and player and his list of 18 bikes and 15 teleporting termies with constant buffs across the army is brutal, as making the top 4 cut proves!
I went second and the bikes made their 12" pre game move plus their standard 12" move to get sigjts on all the chariots and some flamers, killing the chariots and tying up 3 remaining Flamers.
Belly got to heroic into a termie squad that charged a chariot and screamers after teleporting over killing them all.
I was on the back foot from the start after this killing bikes and termies in my lines while also losing alot of my stuff. I wasn't able to get into Robs table half and it was another schooling.
This is the one game where I wished I wasn't mono Tzeentch with some Nurglings.
100-60 loss
Game 5 vs Custodes
Secondaries:
Rebels-8
Warp Ritual-12
Despoilers-4
Going into game 5 I was in my own head really chasing that 4-1. I played Christopher and his custodes, with 9 bikes, jump pack guys, basic custodians and the standard bike captain, Trajan and the teleporting heroic termie captain.
I deployed poorly and sat back turn 1 letting Christopher dictate the tempo of the game. Turn turn I ended up splitting my forces down either flank which was poor play, in hindsight I know I should have stack the on side and swept across the board.
I bounced off of those 4+ mortal feel no pains and and 4+ invuls. After using an Exalted hidden behind a unit of Flamers and screamers to despoil an objective, I over exposed both my fateskimmers and lost them to combat not making any 5+ saves, 3 bikes also wiped the screamers and tagged the flamers.
I set up my chariots and flamers ready to hit the bikers and captain on the objective and instead of just falling back my 4 flamers, I instead tried to Shrouded Step them out of combat so I could get their damage too, which was denied by the Terminator captain.... Belly failed a 6" charged aswell and that spelled the end to a very poorly played game 5 from myself....
Christopher played well and capitalised on my poor play to put me to bed and end my 4-1 dreams.
99-42 loss
Overall I really enjoyed going back to mono Tzeentch for the first time in years and think there is some real play there, I know I got into my own head on day 2 and while I don't think I could have done much going second into the Votann, but I know the custodes game was more than winnable if played right.
Now to decide if I stick with Tzeentch and tweal the list for the Manchester super major next weekend or if I go back to an Undivided list... hmmmm
