Saffron Slam VI tournament review

I know it's been a while, real life unfortunately get's in the way sometimes but now it's time to get to blogging again!

So any of the followers of this blog knows I dropped Greater Daemons a while ago just going with Belly leading his horde of Daemons.
With the new season under way and a very shooty meta starting to manifest, I've decided to drop Belly himself and start testing out lists without any of the big guys!
Overall I think there is real potential with some tweaking here.

Game 1 vs Guard

Rebels-15pts
Banners-13pts
No Prisoners-8pts

So this was a great first test going up against one of the strongest factions in the game. 80 guardsmen, 30 kitted out Kasrkins, 3 leman russes with a tank commander and 2 command squads along with 2 mortar squads and a Lascannon squad.
We played on the scouring, and so I just moved right up to the middle behind terrain  screening out the key while sending a squad of dogs up to a wall to attract some mortar attention away from my nettes.
Turn 2 I jumped out with Fiends, letters and dogs taking the centre of the board and my opponents objectives. After this it was just a case of keep them back while tagging what I could and keeping hold of my objectives and the center with nettes. His Kasrkin squads got blown up by mortals and tagged by a unit of dogs meaning they couldn't really get into the game. My prince's were OK here, killing a few of the tanks and a command squad, the Flamers swept away alot of the guards men while protecting my characters.

91-59 win

Game 2 vs Votann

Banners-5
Rebels-15
Warp Ritual-3

2 Land Fortresses filled with a unit of bezerks each, 2 units of bikes, 3 buffing characters and a few units of troops. So as you can see, I screwed up my secondaries. We were playing abandoned sanctuaries which is my least favourite mission with 3 central objectives with no real protection...
I actually forgot to ritual until turn 5 which was stupid from me but I kept it as close as I could. I rushed up turn 2, but my list just leaking no prisoners and assassinate screwed me up, keeping my khorne Prince back the whole game and hiding more than I should rather than just going for it.
The dogs were pretty good here holding up the side objectives and keeping some bikes occupied but the shooting was too much for my Fiends and Flamers. My opponent basicly stayed castled up except a few units going foward to grab objectives off of me until late game to achieve lay claim. Bezerks are probably the bane of my life, not realising how tough they are were able to flatten me when they got close.
Overall I didn't hit them hard enough which allowed the Votann to shoot me hard and my poor secondary play bit me hard.

71-88 loss

Game 3 vs Sisters

Rebels-15
Banners-13
Grind-6

A sister list with 3 small units of repentia, 2 units of melta retributors, 3 squads of zeph, a smashy superior, a couple buffing characters, Vahl and 2 allied helverins on tide of Conviction.
I played silly again and front lined my Fiends losing 7 of them to the superior and helverins. That made this game abit of an uphill battle, I used letters to tie up the knights and hold up that objective for a few turns while the dogs and Nettes held off my objective on my right side.
I just kept trying to steal the primary as much as I could while defending my own objectives, having to deal with Zephirym dropping into my closer mid objective, overall it was a fairly straight foward game but I twice thought I had achieved grind and didn't make the play for an extra unit just to realise I had matched the kill tally.
Overall another display of poor play from me that I managed to save with primary.

88-67 win

Game 4 vs Drukhari

Rebels-15
No Prisoners-9
RBD-12

A very interesting Drukhari list with Grotesques, alot of phantasms on raiders and warrior squads embarked on them, Draz, a load of incubi and a court on conversion.
I used the big boulder terrain to my advantage, moving all my Fiends on one flank behind it while moving nettes and Dogs down the other side and placing another unit of dogs in the center for points.
I got lucky with the Grotesque failing an 7" re-rolled charge on the central dogs, my opponent blocked alot of my paths with venoms and bikes which meant I had to fight my way out of my deployment zone but with some good rolls managed to roll over his main threats.
Took hold of the primary and my Prince's and Flamers jumped over to deal with the court in turn 5.

Game 5 vs Imperial Knights

Rebels-15pts
Bring it down-12pts
Interrogation-12pts

So going into game 5 I was on table 2 vs Ed, if either of us won scoring around 80pts or more, we would clinch 2nd place. Ed was running 7 armigers (4 glaives and 3 helverins) and 2 big knights and a crap ton of different buffed for the little stuff.
We played on death and zeal. I started the game for the first 2 turns very cagey, just waiting for him to move his smaller knights out so I could go on a tear. I had a unit of Flamers and nettes hold the objective on my left quarter which Ed had sent a Wargrave after.
Turn 3 I came down to kill 2 mini knights and grab the centre. Unfortunately all the buffs of trans hit and -1 damage caused me major issues and a Warglaive stayed on the middle objective a turn longer than he should have going down to a single wound.
I failed to stop him doing his action secondary on the middle which would cost me hugely.
On Turn 5 I had to kill 2 mini knights and just plonk myself on all the objectives and hope he couldn't shift me.
Unfortunately my inability to do much to the big knights cost me when one of them scored 5pts on the action while the other killed my Nurgle Prince and nettes to obsec an objective off of me winning Ed the game.
Super close game and very gutted to miss out on 2nd place after scoring so high.

90-94 loss

Overall I like how the list played, though I do need some games under my belt with it.
Do feel I need some long range (maybe some cannons) because it bit me in the butt a few times not being able to do some long range damage.
