Gothic games RTT! Tournament review

So this past Saturday I attended my last event of 2022, the Gothic Games RTT run by Danny down in Canterbury.
This was a good event, a few hiccups with the round 2 pairings but other than that a very good venue with GW style terrain on clear bases.

List:

Undivided Battalion:
HQ:
Fateskimmer-horrors, Staff, Bolt of Change, Infernal Gateway
Fluxmaster-Warlord: Fractal Mind, Gaze of Fate, Infernal Flames
Troops:
4x10 Daemonettes
Elites:
3x5 Flamers
Exalted Flamer

Khorne Patrol:
HQ:
Be'lakor-Pall of Despair, Shrouded Step
Troops:
3x10 Bloodletters

And 6 Furies for banners/despoiler markers, because I have a ton of them and I'll be damned if I don't use them for anything!!!

So basicly this is the same list I've been running for a while, the latest change sees the Staff come off the fluxmaster and the Blue Horrors dropped for the Exalted Flamer and in general I really liked the change.

Game 1 vs Grey Knights

Secondaries:
Rebels-15
Banners-15
Assassinate-13

Game 1 was against Matt and his awesome looking grey knights, running 15 termies, 5 Paladins, dreadknight grandmaster, dreadknight, storm raven and few standard characters.
We played on recover the Relics which was a favourable match up for me, I started off just moving my nettes up to do banners, pushed the Fateskimmer, 5 Flamers and the Exalted up to hit his Terminators on his flank but with a good handful of 5+ feel no pains, and saving 28/29 2+ saves, I only managed to kill a couple termies.
The return fire saw the Storm raven jump up and do 7 wounds to Belly, while one of his Termie squads went ham and deleted 10 of the nettes relatively easily.
My Flamer flank only lost one guy though which was down to good 3+ saves.
Turn two I brought down 10 letters to hit the squad of termies that moved towards the middle, deleting them in one round of combat thanks to Fury of Khorne and Belly's re-roll 1's.
Be'lakor ate the plane but took another 4 wounds on overwatch, while I killed the remaining termies and the dreadknight with the 4 Flamers, a second unit of Flamers plus the characters.
At this point, Matt unfortunately didn't have much left to score, my following turn Belly killed the grandmaster, while I killed his other three characters just leaving him with 7 Terminators.
This wasn't a good match up for Matt unfortunately, but it was a very enjoyable game and Matt was a true gentleman.
98-33 Win

Game 2 vs Necrons

Secondaries:
Rebels-14
Interrogation-9
No Prisoners-12

I just hate this match up, always feels like a real uphill battle while the cron player just moves models.
Sour grapes aside, I decided to reserve Belly, 30 letters and 5 Flamers.
We played tide of Conviction which is a rough mission vs the mass obsec and pre game move. I was denied primary until turn 4 despite me absolutely murdering the crons.
I kept killing what came my way, and Belly dropped killing a big unit of skorpeks, unfortunately -2 to hit at range plus impossible Elegance was no match for the saves caused by 5 heavy destroyers and 6 Skorpek backed by a plasmacyte and Szarekh.
I fought my way through leaving my opponent with just Szarekh, a cryptek and a heavy Destroyer. I did manage to use Frenetic bloodlust to steal primary and prevent an ancient machineries late game which didn't make any difference to result in the end, but shows how powerful that strat can be. Letters, Exalted Flamer and Fateskimmer were standouts in this game.
94-64 loss

Game 3 vs Blood Angels

Secondaries:
Rebels-15
Interrogation-15
No prisoners-12

My last game was against a very interesting Blood Angel list. With 19 Sanguinary Guard, 15 death company, eliminators, tactical marines and suppressors with Lemartes, Dante, ancient and priest.
Seb had put all his units within the building in his deployment, so I decided to feed him some Daemonettes to draw his units out. I feel he held back abit to much in his turn 2 and so I was able to keep in in one spot and just kill what ever he had on the front lines. My bloodletters where immense in this game, killing 13 sanguinary guard, 5 death Company, the eliminators and assault Marines.
Going into turn 3 I had every objective barring Sebs home one and had his building surrounded. I had used Frenetic bloodlust to move a unit of letters foward in Sebs turn to get a shorter charge in mine, Flamers came down and just melted Marines while the Fateskimmer zapped some Sanguinary guard in the middle.
Pall of Despair for fights last was huge in this match up, aside from that, Belly killed some sanguinary guard and then got blatted by melta pistols and thunder hammers... Belly made maybe 5 saves from about 20 odd all day so this wasn't surprising.
This was an incredibly fun game and Seb was an awesome opponent, we finished with an hour to go (we both were super keen to get the game finished to go watch England.. not that it ended well...).

So overall, 2022 was a good year for me competitively. I didn't actually have my first game of the year until June due to taking some personal time away from the hobby, I got my first event win and pulled out another 3 with an extra podium and a fair few top 5 finishes.
Unfortunately with all the big majors excluding LGT falling on weekends I have work commitments, I am unable to keep up with those who attend every big major.
My goal for 2023 is to attend more of the big majors, and seriously compete for number 1 Chaos Daemons in the ITC.

We have one more event of the season in Peterborough next month, it will be interesting to see if anything has changed by then but I'll be testing out a bunch of new lists over the next few weeks.

    1. If you read the list part of the blog, you'd see they were just for banner/despoiler markers.
