My GT winning list

This past weekend I attended the Saffron Slam based in Saffron Walden in Essex, a two day GT ran by Elmo Miniatures. Once again Lewis put on a great event with beautiful looking tables and a great atmosphere.

This won't be a full game report post, as I don't want to do paragraphs and paragraphs on games. This will instead be a run down on my list, how it worked and certain points in games.

My list:

Undivided Battalion Detachment
HQ:
Fateskimmer: Warlord: Fractal Mind, Retinue of Horrors, Bolt of Change, Infernal Flames 145pts
Tranceweaver: Hysterical Frenzy 70pts
Troops:
10 Daemonettes 120pts
10 Daemonettes 120pts
10 Daemonettes 120pts
10 Daemonettes 120pts
10 Daemonettes 120pts
Elites:
5 Flamers 125pts
5 Flamers 125pts
5 Flamers 125pts

Khorne Patrol Detachment
HQ:
Be'lakor: Pall of Despair, Shrouded Step
Troops:
10 Bloodletters 130pts
10 Bloodletters 130pts
10 Bloodletters 130pts

I've now played a three and two monster list at events and while I still managed to win an event with each, I still didn't feel like I was incredibly comfortable while using it in games. So I decided to go back to an older play style of mine and take alot of infantry.
The idea of the list is to essentially kill my opponents primary scoring while scoring decent on mine and also playing well into certain secondaries. Though I was quite surprised with just how killy I still was.

The games:

83-52 Salamanders: this was a fairly straightforward game, I took one side of the board with daemonettes and bloodletters and then contested the centre and the other side. I made some big mistakes forgetting about auspex scan and not knowing he could overwatch with a unit of centurions with Flamers when I charged his vanguard vets. Made it slightly harder for myself but had too much to outscore primary.

94-62 Dark Angels: Again a fairly straight foward game that I took one side and contested the other, using the fact I was alot faster than my opponents 40 Terminators. Be'lakor held up a squad of termies for 3 turns blocking his path and having to move already slower units around impassable terrain. Managed to kill 26 of his termies alongside his eliminators and incursors.

76-74 Custodes: this was a tougher game, Be'lakor was pivotal holding 3 dreads and Trajan in the middle while I killed his minimal infantry. We actually didn't manage to get to turn 5 due to some constraints at the beginning of the round. Though we did play it after the round to see and I won the game still without actually having to roll any dice 86-78. Luckily either way it doesn't change a thing as the pairings for the next round would have been the exact same.

82-70 Daemons: another hard game vs Belly, Skarbrand and a Chicken. I killed all but the chicken and his Horrors due to his splits. I played fairly defensively then went on the offensive once his deepstrikes were in. Belly made light work of his Be'lakor and Skarbrand though got lucky with a failed 6" charge from his Skarbrand.

86-64 Daemons: Going against my friend Jack and his 5 monster list, I killed alot of his stuff with him just having the thirster and 2 Flamers left. I starved him of 7 rebel points and he only managed to get 6 on Interrogation due to good denies and the 4+ khorne strat 6 on grind. In the end my mass obsec was too much for his monsters to deal with, though Belly and the letters done some serious work.

Secondaries:

RND

So action secondaries are built into this list by default. I'm not a huge fan of Banners though in the right circumstances and match up the Bloodletters and Flamers can keep my opponent held up while the daemonettes raise and hold the banners for a few turns.
I maxed RND in all my games except against custodes due to a movement mistake from me, with a combination of Shrouded Step and Manifestations plus alot of units able to do it makes it a solid choice for my list.

Psychic Interrogation

I took Fractal Mind on the Fateskimmer to give me multiple options for psychic secondaries without having to sacrifice much in the way of casts. He can still cast Infernal Flames to buff Flamers or Bolt to soften a unit up? though the Tranceweaver also is an option when I don't need Hysterical. I can combine that with Shrouded Step from Belly to run her foward to Interrogate and then teleport back to safety.

Reality Rebels

This one speaks for itself really. Every Daemon player pretty much takes Reality Rebels, and my list is incredible at scoring it due to have as many units as I do. I've failed to max it out twice in 19 tournament games, and even then still scored 11 and 14.

Though I took the same secondaries all 5 games, I definitely could have taken some killy ones in the daemon and dark angel games. Other options though is banners , Despoilers in the right match up (but I really hate the fact it doesn't complete until my next command phase). I also like no prisoners against high model count lists like Orks or sisters. Nourished is also a great take vs Orks and Daemons.

How it plays:

As far as manifestations go, the 30 letters, 1-2 units of Flamers and maybe a unit of daemonettes are normally my deepstrikes.
It of course depends on the match up and terrain set up, as far as Belly goes, he tends to play defensively turn 1 and maybe turn 2 before either jumping on what gets close or teleporting and spitting out bloodletters.

I tend to make my plays with the Daemonettes to stifle my opponents primary while they are also the most likely candidates for RND, playong fairly defensive turn 1 and then moving out once the letters/Flamers start doing their work. I try to take full advantage of Bellys Locus, and did find myself teleporting him with the Tzeentch strat 9" away and then spitting out Bloodletters which felt invaluable.

Weaknesses:

The obvious one is how do I deal with armies like knights, well I am fairly killy and it's about picking the right fights with Flamers and letters. But I am very confident in my scoring ability and being able to just kill my opponents primary game that I can pull those type of games out on points, just it is a tough game.
With match ups vs shooty armies like Tau or Votann, I have the Khorne warpstorm ability to hold units in combat on a 4+, not to mention my wrapping ability aswell but I need a table with decent terrain to not get blown away.
I feel I do struggle into real combat armies or lists that spit out mortals like Nids and Tsons.

Changes:

So I have a bad habit of playing with a list and changing it up instantly, even if I end up doing well with it.
Potential changes I am thinking about is maybe trying to squeeze in an Enrapturess for the Locus on nettes plus healing d3 back to a unit.
I have toyed with dropping Be'lakor for either a chicken or just more smaller stuff like maybe some burning chariots, Skulltaker or Fiends. Though the more I've reflected on the weekend, the more I realise he was quite instrumental.

Overall I really enjoyed going back to a more horde style list and will be keeping this blog updated with my progress going foward! 😈
